筆匠洲崎のはじまり　The Origins of Hissho Susaki

1882年（明治15年）創業。稀有な筆匠、二代目洲崎久知郎により洲崎文開堂に改組。現・株式会社筆匠洲崎。広島・熊野で職人たちによって一本一本手作りで作られた、最高級品質の日本伝統筆を世に出し続けている企業。

今年(2026年)で創業144年を迎えます。

Founded in 1882 (Meiji 15), the company was later reorganized as Suzaki Bunkaido under the leadership of the exceptional second-generation master brushmaker, Hisachiro Susaki. Today, it operates as Hissho Susaki Co., Ltd.

Based in Kumano, Hiroshima, the company continues to preserve the art of traditional Japanese brushmaking, producing the finest quality brushes,

each meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans.

In 2026, the company proudly celebrates its 144th anniversary, honoring a legacy of exceptional craftsmanship and Japanese tradition.

SUIとは? Who is SUI?

先代、久知郎の妻であるスイは、日本人女性らしく、強さと優しさで夫と筆を生涯支えた。私たちは彼女からインスピレーションを受け、彼女の名前スイという文字をブランド名に。SUITOKYOは筆匠洲崎のプロデュースにより広島・熊野で作られたメイク筆です。

Sui, the wife of master brushmaker Hisachiro Susaki, devoted her life to supporting her husband and his craft with strength, grace, and kindness, embodying the spirit of Japanese women.

Inspired by her remarkable legacy, we named our brand SUI TOKYO in her honor.

Produced by Hissho Suzaki, SUI TOKYO's makeup brushes are meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans in Kumano, Hiroshima, Japan, preserving generations of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

書道協会発足に立ち上がった唯一の女性、スイ。Sui, the only female founding member of the Japanese Calligraphy Association.

戦後、GHQにより、日本の文化を無くす提案を出された際に、書道協会の為に、立ち上がったメンバーであるスイ。物が少なかったその当時、小学校などに筆を持って行き、日本の文化である筆を日本全国に普及させた。

In postwar Japan, when the Allied Occupation authorities (GHQ) proposed measures that threatened traditional Japanese culture, Sui was among those who stood up to protect the art of calligraphy.

At a time when resources were scarce, she personally brought calligraphy brushes to elementary schools and helped spread the tradition of Japanese brushmaking and calligraphy throughout the country.

Her dedication played a part in preserving Japan’s cultural heritage for future generations.

SUI TOKYOを始めたきっかけは祖母。My Grandmother, the Inspiration Behind SUI TOKYO.

写真左、筆匠洲崎に嫁いだ私の祖母である洲崎静江は、夫である3代目　洲崎時陸没後、写真右　すいのように現在、代表取締役として筆匠洲崎を支え続けている。彼女が筆匠洲崎の書道の筆をメイクの筆に変えたいという夢が15年前からあったのを知り、私は彼女とメイク筆ブランド、SUI TOKYOを立ち上げました。

My grandmother, Shizue Susaki (left), married into the Hissho Susaki family. Following the passing of her husband, Tokimichi Suzaki, the third-generation master brushmaker, she took on the role of President and continues to lead the family business, carrying on the legacy of Sui (right).

When I learned that my grandmother had dreamed for over 15 years of transforming Hissho Susaki's traditional calligraphy brushes into makeup brushes, I decided to bring her vision to life.

Together, we founded SUI TOKYO, a makeup brush brand that brings generations of Japanese craftsmanship into the world of beauty.
